Pick games that fit the room
Mixed ages do best with short games where anyone can win. Plan 3 or 4 games of 10 to 15 minutes each and keep one spare in case a game falls flat.
Games that work for almost any group
- Emoji guessing: show a row of emojis and guess the Christmas song or movie. Play in teams so younger kids can join older players.
- Would you rather: read a question, everyone moves to one side of the room or holds up a card. No scoring needed, which makes it a good warm-up.
- Fill-in funny stories: one person asks for a noun, a verb or a silly name, then reads the finished story out loud. Great for the table after dinner.
- Charades and draw-it: act or sketch a holiday word while your team guesses before the timer runs out.
- Holiday word search or crossword race: a quiet option for kids while adults talk.
Hosting tips
- Print or write cards before guests arrive.
- Use teams rather than individuals so nobody is put on the spot.
- Keep prizes small or skip them. Bragging rights work fine.
- Have a pen, a timer (a phone works) and a scrap of paper for the score.
