What counts as needs, wants and savings?
Needs are bills you must pay: rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, transportation, insurance and minimum debt payments. Wants are things you could cut: dining out, streaming, hobbies, shopping. Savings covers your emergency fund, retirement and any payment above a debt minimum.
Many people can't hit 50/30/20 right away, especially with high rent. Change the percentages above (for example 60/20/20) to make a split you can actually live with, then nudge it over time.
